Indigo Justice is a nightblood (vampire) on a mission. She is trying to escape the expectations of her parents who do not love her. So she takes to fighting in the supernatural pits and works in a bar . But most of all, she avoids all contact with her parents and avoids going home. Her father decides that enough is enough and blackmails-AKA-for her to join the Nightwatch Academy, where supernaturals learn to police themselves and where Shadow Knights train to fight the Fomorians ("bad guys") to protect the supernatural world and humanity. She hates being forced into Nightwatch Academy and doesn't really apply herself. Her classmates resent her and her attitude and she is not particularly popular. One night, while going through a routine school ceremony, it is discovered that she has the gene that turns her into a Shadow Knight, and she becomes the first woman to receive the training. But then the students begin to be attacked and lose their memories. It is up to the Shadow Knights to protect the students and find out who is behind the attacks.
